Sherry Ott

Sherry Lee Ott was born on February 28th 1948 in Chicago, IL. She was the second oldest of seven siblings. She grew up between Minnesota with her beloved grandparents, California and Illinois, with most of her childhood spent in Chicago. She met her would-be husband, Randall “Randy” Ott, at age 16. They both lived in Lincoln Park at the time and as the story goes, her older brother Craig was very protective, so Randy had to play his cards right :-). But if you knew Sherry, she didn’t need her older brother to protect her. On February 26th, 1966, Sherry married Randy, and in 1973 welcomed their first daughter, Suzen. In 1980, Bonnie was born and in 1988 at 40 years old, her youngest, Brittney was born (surprise!). She led a colorful life and had a beautiful spirit. She joined St. James Lutheran Church and School when Suzen was young. St. James became an amazing foundation and community for her life, her faith in God, her work in the school office, after school programs and in the Church. St. James is also where her daughters grew up. There was a lot of love standing at 5’2. Super sharp and feisty, and also funny and caring. Sherry worked in the lighting industry, was an Executive Administrator for Robins Food Distribution, Inc. and most recently was the Finance Director of Bonnie’s company, Studio B. She loved her daughters and granddaughter immensely, riding her bike downtown to Navy Pier, movies (her favorite was Gone With the Wind, she named Bonnie after “Bonnie Blue”), Native American history, specifically the Blackfoot Indian Tribe, listening to her music on the record player, country music, chai lattes, frogs, pillsbury doughboy (to tease her husband), the Chicago Bears, all holidays, especially Christmas, Law & Order SVU and Hapkido. Fun fact. In her mid to late 40’s Sherry started training at Hyun’s Hapkido on Western Ave. She later earned her brown belt in Hapkido. There is a video of her flipping a man over her back! She also owned a coffee shop called Mellow Grounds Coffee Lounge on Ashland Ave. Sherry will be remembered for always giving her family and friends support, love and encouragement - no matter who you were or where you came from. She departed this life on Monday, October 15, 2018. She was 70 years young. Sherry leaves to cherish: her three children Suzen Ott-Klug, Bonnie Smith and Brittney Perez; her three son-in-laws Kevin Klug, Vincent Smith and Rodolfo Perez; her two grandchildren Jacinda Ott (Suzen’s daughter) and Lucas Perez who will be welcomed into our world on/around December 15, 2018 to Brittney and Rodolfo. Her ‘baby’ brother David and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband Randall Charles Ott, her sister Suzen Henderson, her brothers Roger, Carl, Bobby and Craig Patten and her mother Joan Patten. We are celebrating the life of our beautiful, strong, caring and loving Mom “Mama” Sherry Ott. We love and miss you so much, but we know that this is your home going and we’re celebrating you receiving your wings. MEMORIAL CELEBRATION Saturday, October 20th, 2018 Memorial Celebration begins at 10AM. Services will begin at 12NOON. Barr Funeral Home 6222 North Broadway, Chicago, IL 60660 An education fund in our Mom’s name has been set up for baby Lucas, her grandson and healthy, growing baby of her baby – Brittney and her husband Rodolfo. Lucas will be celebrating his grandmother’s life with us this December.
