Marion Louise "Marilyn" Winn Walker

Marion Louise Winn-Walker, lovingly known as Marilyn, entered this life on October 9, 1950, in Clarksville, Tennessee, born to Mamie Winn Thornton and Ralph Humphrey Jr., who both preceded her in death. She was the second of four children. Her brother JB Batson Jr. also preceded her in death, while her sister Barbara Ann Winn-Johnson and brother Jerry Winn both reside in Illinois. Marilyn was a vibrant, ambitious, and outgoing woman-truly larger than life. She had a deep love for living and was most in her element when surrounded by family and friends. Whether she was hosting gatherings or cooking up delicious meals, Marilyn found joy in bringing people together. She never met a stranger-only friends she hadn't yet had the pleasure of meeting. Her generous spirit and kind heart left a lasting impression on everyone she encountered, and her absence will be deeply felt and never replaced. She attended Marshall High School on the West Side of Chicago, where she discovered her passion for serving others. She pursued nursing, believing that caregiving was more than a profession—it was a calling. Marilyn learned early on that being of service wasn't confined to a classroom or career, but was a way of life. She carried that belief with her everywhere she went, leaving behind countless cherished friendships and memories along the way. The greatest joy in Marilyn's life came with the birth of her beloved daughter, Chiquita Kewan Winn- Richards, who also preceded her in death. Marilyn was a proud and devoted mother, and her love only deepened when she became a grandmother to Leah Elise Richards and Dahveed Richards. Her heart expanded again with the arrival of her great-granddaughter, Daniela Richards (daughter of Dahveed). As the Bible tells us in Ecclesiastes 4:9-12, "Two are better than one." This scripture became the foundation of Marilyn's lifelong partnership with her beloved husband, Floyd Walker. Their love was visible, enduring, and reciprocal-Floyd never hesitated to show just how much he cherished Marilyn. She loved him deeply until his passing, which preceded hers. Marilyn departed this life on May 16, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of love, laughter, and compassion. She leaves to carry on her memory: Daveed Richards, Leah Elise Richards, Barbara A Johnson, Desiree Johnson, Desmund Cager, Jerry L Winn, Letitia Brown (Bryant Brown), Darmeka Livingston (Mark Livingston), Lolita A Oyebade (Michael Oyebade), James Batson Jr. (Shoko Batson), Mary Houston Batson, Mary Melissa Batson, Olyvia Batson, Oweda Houson, and Virgie Houston. A countless host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She also leaves behind her special friend Bill Flowers. Her life was a gift to all who knew her, and though she may be gone from our sight, her spirit lives on in every warm memory, every shared story, and every heart she touched.
