Kenneth E Strandberg Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

It is with great love and sadness that we announce the passing of Kenneth (Kenny) Strandberg on September 9, 2020 at the age of 82. Kenny passed away peacefully in his sleep and is survived by his son Kenneth Michael (Janet), his grandchildren Nicholas, Tiffany, and Joseph, and his great-grandson Billy. Kenny loved jazz and was particularly fond of Frank Sinatra. Sinatra's "My Way" truly captures the essence of the man Kenny was. Supporting the arts was a lifelong dream of his, and in 1988 Kenny and a friend were given the opportunity to take over a business at 2020 N. Oakley Chicago, IL. Kenny had a vision to create a place where the main focus would always be on the arts and music. The Gallery Cabaret, fondly referred to as "The Gallery," was born. True to form, against the odds and while defying the "norms" of a typical Chicago music venue, Kenny made his vision happen. As one patron described in a documentary written about The Gallery Cabaret, "The Gallery has a lot of soul and is unlike any other music venue in Chicago". https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c7zGN3HAAT8 In the days since Kenny's passing, his family has been humbled and honored to hear many individuals share stories of the impact Kenny had on their lives. People spoke of Kenny taking them in, giving them a chance when no one else did, and that they would not be where they are today without him. Kenny was truly a legend that will be forever missed, and never forgotten. His legacy lives on through his family, the loyal friends and patrons of The Gallery, and the artists & musicians who began their journey under the wings of Kenny and The Gallery Cabaret. Rest in peace, Kenny, cheers. There will be a celebration of Kenny's life at The Gallery Cabaret when it is safe.
