Paul Levi Tankouo

Paulo Levi Gamwo Tankouo, affectionately known as Paulo, graced this world with his presence on April 24, 1962, in Bafoussam, Cameroon. His journey, marked by quiet strength, gentle humor, and a profound passion for smooth jazz, touched the lives of many before his passing on April 18, 2024, in Chicago, USA, at the age of 61. In 1997, Paulo migrated to the United States, a pivotal decision that not only shaped his own life but also facilitated opportunities for his beloved family. His citizenship in the US played a crucial role in the relocation of one of his daughters, Cynthia, who later obtained her doctorate in pharmacy in Chicago, a feat partially attributed to her father's support and encouragement. Paulo was a father to four children: Christelle Mekangue Tankouo, Cynthia Nadia Ngamwo Tankouo, Nelly Tankouo, and Gamwo Tankouo Paul Junior. Throughout his life, Paulo maintained a reserved demeanor, preferring observation over active participation. Yet, behind his quiet demeanor lay a wellspring of humor that often uplifted those around him. In his professional life within the airport logistics field, Paulo's subtle intelligence and clever humor made even his colleagues love him. However, it was sometimes in music, particularly smooth jazz, where Paulo found some solace and refuge. He was an accomplished guitarist and immersed himself in the melodies of artists like Dave Koz and Anita Baker. For Paulo, jazz was more than just music; it offered beauty in a chaotic world. Despite his reserved nature, Paulo was deeply affectionate, expressing his emotions through the melodies he played and the love he shared with his family. Tragically, Paulo's life was cut short by a sudden cardiac arrest, leaving him unconscious and ultimately claiming his life. His passing on April 18th at Weiss Memorial Hospital in Chicago left a profound void in the lives of his family and friends. Paulo leaves behind a legacy of passion, love, forgiveness, and talent. As we bid farewell to the Ram Supervisor of O’Hare International Airport in Chicago, we remember Paulo not just as an airport worker but as an artist whose melody of life will continue to resonate in our hearts. His memory lives on through his children and grandchildren, including Cynthia's child, KB-Milaire Akenfak Tchantchou, aged 2, and Christelle's child, Abanda Ben Ryan, aged 15, who will carry forward the love and warmth that Paulo shared. Until we meet again in heaven, silent artist, your presence will be deeply missed, but your spirit will live on in our memories forever. May his soul find eternal peace, joy, and tranquility in the embrace of God. Amen.
